Coffee grinder inventor shows off The Key
The Key is one of my all time favourite grinders (maybe the EG-1 can top it but I don't have a spare $8k to drop on a single dose grinder).
I had the chance to speak with Douglas Weber about what makes the grinder so unique and why its such a magnificent machine. With the biggest conical burrs on the market, the Key isn't much wider than a credit card. They compactness of this machine is amazing and yet it doesn't sacrifice anything - it really is a home barista's End Game Grinder and certainly needs to be talked about more.
If you're a fan of high end craftsmanship then this machine might be one to think about upgrading to when you have the budget.
Enjoy your Brew!

I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently on each farm, in each region, and in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors and or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.

Is La Pavoni's Diamantina your next coffee machine upgrade?
Переглядів 79621 годину тому
When I first saw the Diamantina it was from across the main hall of Melbourne's International Coffee Expo and the sparkles and light reflections caught my eye. Up close I saw how dominant this machine was and "diamonds" is an accurate description as the machine spins on the stand it lights up like a disco ball. It's certainly not the style of machine I'd have in my house ( I don't have the sort...

      You missed my point completely. It's more if you're spending $50k a year on ubers, buy a car that costs outright for $30k and don't bother with a car that costs you $5k.

    I disagree with this machine only being for experienced baristas. You can buy this machine even if you have never owned an espresso machine. Can set it to a default profile (for medium roast for example) and just hit the button. You don't even need to look at the graphs. How is that harder than say a Lelit Bianca? If you HAD to make up your own profile, then yes I would agree with you. Then you can start experimenting with it after you have "gotten the hang" of the machine and gained more experience.

    This is a little more involved than what most Brazilians do. They just make coffee using a machine or pour over filter like everyone else. However, they tend to use pre-ground Brazilian coffee brands, which can be quite strong in flavor depending on your ratio -- Brazilians take a small cup of fairly strong coffee, hence the name cafezinho or little coffee.

    I'm looking to buy my first "nicer" espresso machine. I've been using a Starbucks Barista(Saeco) and have a decent burr grinder(better than the espresso machine). What do you prefer about the Gaggia vs the Rancilio? Would you recommend a new Gaggia or used older Rancilio with PID mod and a "tune up" with boiler cleaning, seals, etc? The other machine I'm looking at is the Profitec Go. Have you used it? Budget is ~$1,000. No interest in anything other than 58mm portafilter.

    I am currently a barista but am not getting paid well. I am looking at coffee shops in my area and trying to decide how to sell myself. I love my job and would like to continue to assist my community with high quality drinks. I am usually a slow and meticulous person, but with the help of my supervisor I am now a lot faster at making coffee with good quality. So, just because you start off slow doesn’t mean you will always be slow.

    As a Brazilian I can say that this is the true way. My grandmother who's 94 this year still makes coffee like this. (instead of an electric kettle she just uses an old milk pot) Also, sugar is not a rule, depends on the household so some people prefere to brew it without it and add it later.

    I still think the one thing La Pavoni need to do is a lever machine with a PID to make it more temperature stable. People have been modding Europicccolas with them for years.

  • @leonid_dementev

    Write if I'm wrong. La pavoni coffee machines are cool, but the manufacturer with a 105-year history screws up the very basics. It’s as if these Italians make thousands of them but don’t drink coffee from them... You can’t leave the factory with these pid settings, so the coffee brewing boiler is about 130 degrees Celsius, set it up normally before leaving the assembly line

  • @leonid_dementev
    @leonid_dementev 9 днів тому

    I have owned la pavoni Botticelli dual boiler for about 2 years. The coffee machine from the factory is initially very unfriendly. The PID sensor is configured with a temperature shift in the group by 27 degrees Celsius, that is, after heating, superheated boiling water flows. However, there are no instructions for setting up the PID or even entering the programming mode in the PID. I found how to set it up in the video who latte love. The steam nozzle is also very heavy to use, 2 holes of 1.5 mm each. The bubbles are huge, it’s hard to beat, the foam is dry and bad. I had to buy a separate steam nozzle with smaller holes. Men also have lelit anna pid, take it straight out of the box and cook it, much friendlier despite the fact that it costs 6 times less. La pavoni has conflicting impressions...

      I'm in Queensland, Australia which is a subtropical area so coffee grows quite nicely here. No the cherries taste nothing like coffee or like regular cherries. They kinda taste a bit like a crabapples, kinda tart. They have hardly any flesh so it's mostly skin which is why there's a lot of this just goes to waste which is a bit sad.

    Features and convenience aside: from a pure results in the cup point of view - is there any significant difference between the Manuale and the other models?

    • @Rydecoffeecoach
      @Rydecoffeecoach 10 днів тому

      Good question! I think not really in terms of the actual grinding. When you get to the higher models, the burrs are different and bigger so there is a difference in the cup. Significant difference? Not to the untrained palate, no. If you're drinking with milk I think there's virtually no noticeable difference.

    I used to have the Breville Dual Boiler but it was constantly breaking down and having bought it in Australia and now living in UK the Sage dealers were told by Sage not to service it. So personally would rather have a real espresso machine like Bezzera as the price is not good in comparison.

    Bro, love this video and agree with almost all of your thoughts. Quick correction... MODBAR was not invented by La Marzocco. It was invented by two fine Hoosiers, Aric Forbing and Gabe Vogelsang, and was founded and manufactured in the coffee Mecca (ALS) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. I grew up in Fort Wayne, and just as you need to celebrate your Aussie wins, we Fort Wayneans need even more to celebrate Fort Wayne wins, because, after all, MODBAR might well be the only one ;)
